Nocturnal noise making insect??

I live in South Texas and there is a nocturnal insect that I have only glimpsed once, but I have heard it many times. It makes a noise like a cicada but doesn't draw the sound out as long, only a second or two. It makes a loud rasping noise. There never seems to be more than one that I hear at a time, certainly not in quantity like crickets. It's color is light green with much longer legs than a cicada and long antennas. It is not as long and narrow as a cicada. Probably about 1 1/2 long. Can you help me identify this mysterious (but loud) insect?

I finally found it
It's a katydid. It has been puzzling me for a while now.
