Mesquite gall with exuvia - Asphondylia prosopidis

Mesquite gall with exuvia - Asphondylia prosopidis
World Birding Center at Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park, Hidalgo County, Texas, USA
May 10, 2009
Park regular Michael Hays, a real insect aficionado, pointed out these galls to me, saying they were caused by the "Mesquite Gall Wasp". I did some snooping and figured out the critter's real identity. This beast's biology is fascinating, especially the park about the symbiotic fungus!
