Crane Fly? - Megarhyssa

Crane Fly? - Megarhyssa
Lake Maria State Park, Wright County, Minnesota, USA
June 13, 2009
This has characteristics of a crane fly but I have not been able to narrow it down to a species. Thanks in advance for any help. I spotted it in a wooded area near a lake.

Yes...
This is a male giant ichneumon and can be moved to the genus level (Megarhyssa).

Probably
Megarhyssa

Ichneumonoidea would be my guess
I suspect it's a male Ichneumon wasp of some kind.
