small wasp - Clitemnestra bipunctata

small wasp - Clitemnestra bipunctata
Santa Clara, Santa Clara County, California, USA
June 15, 2009
Size: around 8mm
It appeared to be hunting for aphids. There were several of this type of wasp present at the same time in the vicinity.

Clitemnestra bipunctata (CA)
Moved from Crabronidae. More likely going after the honeydew. Preys on hoppers, not aphids.

Thanks, Matthias!
I would have been a long time figuring this one out!
