Enoclerus - Enoclerus ichneumoneus

Enoclerus - Enoclerus ichneumoneus
Gainesville, Alachua County, Florida, USA
August 13, 2005
Size: about 5mm
The rear end markings don't seem to match ones posted here, and on further thought this surely is a velvet ant mimic, as I think I see elytra - so this must be a beetle, right?

Moved
Moved from Enoclerus knabi.

Enoclerus ichneumoneus
I synonymized E. knabi last year (in Insecta Mundi, article 0057).

Moved
Moved from Enoclerus. Guide page created...Still looks like Enoclerus ichneumoneus to me, albeit a bit small.

Checkered Beetle
This one guide page or something close to it.

Thanks, Lynette!
Enoclerus looks right to me. Definitely matches your lovely shot, though neither of ours matches the others in that section exactly, so maybe we're looking at different species? Apparently there are 32 spp. so I'm going to leave this at genus level for now. Browsing this useful site Enoclerus images I'm thinking we have Enoclerus knabi, which is listed for FL, along with five other species, in Beetles of Florida.

I agree
I agree with Enoclerus knabi, based on elytra pattern and locale.
