Syrphid Fly, sp. - Scaeva pyrastri

Syrphid Fly, sp. - Scaeva pyrastri
Monte Bello Open Space Preserve, Los Trancos section, Santa Clara County, California, USA
April 19, 2008
Size: ~10 mm
Syrphid, maybe a Eupeodes sp?

Scaeva pyrastri
It looks nearly identical to Eupeodes, but S. pyrastri has almost a "hand-drawn" appearance on the white markings, as opposed to the more precise presentation on the other fly. "More blobby" is another way it's been described.

That's a European species...
now invading California?

Don't know how recent they are.
