Billbug - Sphenophorus venatus

Billbug - Sphenophorus venatus
Medford, Jackson County, Oregon, USA
June 16, 2009
Size: 8mm
Attracted to light. Both S. venatus and the similar species S. parvulus can be found attacking turfgrasses in southern Oregon. This may be the Western orchardgrass billbug (S. venatus confluens) which is a major pest of orchardgrass in this area (west of the Cascades). Like S. parvulus, it also feeds on bluegrass.
