Black stink bug? - Proxys punctulatus

Black stink bug? - Proxys punctulatus
Clinton County, Illinois, USA
June 10, 2009
Elegant black suit and shoulder pads that would have made a Dynasty-era Joan Collins proud. I can't find anything in the guide that looks more like it than Proxys punctulatus.

I think you're right
The only other species that looks close is apparently P. albopunctulatus, but that's more common in South America and although I couldn't find an image of it online, the key listed here says yours is P. punctulatus not P. albopunctulatus. One of the bug experts should be along to confirm or deny. :)
