Asian Lady Beetle Emerging (Gone Wrong) - Harmonia axyridis

Asian Lady Beetle Emerging (Gone Wrong) - Harmonia axyridis
Valley Stream, Nassau County, New York, USA
June 20, 2009
Size: <1 cm.
What happened here? The lady beetle was half-out as seen here when I found it, moving its legs slightly, but hours later it was no farther along, and seemed to have expired. Did the other wing and elytra get stuck in the pupa? I can't tell.
(Update, June 23rd: it was still alive and crawling around the leaf this morning, then disappeared this afternoon.)
