A male
Female has a huge ovipositor. Don't you just love these guys? Gawky and elegant at the same time.

Gawky and elegant at the same time.
Exactly!!
Here's what is puzzling. At any one time there appear to be hundreds of these in the Parsnip flowers. They come in 2 sizes here, both with the red dots. I haven't seen one with an ovipositor. Bugguide images seem to be more female than male. So, where are the ladies.
I have not seen them anywhere except the Parsnips. Soon carrots (right next to the Parsnips) will be blooming. It will be interesting to see if they move to them.
