Interesting. Bet it is a harlequin.
We don't appear to have anything quite like that posted at Bug Guide. FYI, the ones in Southern California are blacker than the eastern bugs. An extreme example:

 
it was just weird
because on all the other ones, the orange and black were reversed, like the spots and the t-shape... maybe it just got lost...
