Gray Sac Spider? - Cheiracanthium mildei - female

Gray Sac Spider? - Cheiracanthium mildei - Female
Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah, USA
June 22, 2009
Size: 3/8 inch
This gray spider screams of Cheiracanthium, black toes and all, but I've never seen one this large or with a gray abdomen. It was nestled right inside the lid of my mailbox on a wooden part. It's covering up its eyes so I haven't gotten a clear shot of them yet. Anyone care to venture a guess as to what it is?

Cheiracanthium mildei
Hi, Carol-

I had a translation project to finish up first (the paying work on my desk), but finally was able to unpack the microscope this evening. I took some photos of your specimen right after unpacking and was already fairly certain that it was a Cheiracanthium species, as the first leg pair was extremely long. Here is one of the photos (feel free to transfer it here if you wish):

The species (there are two in North America, this one is an invader from the Mediterranean that has established itself here) is Cheiracanthium mildei. Specimen no. for future reference is kmp-5716.

Thanks, Kevin,
I have noticed two different yellow sac spiders in my yard and house so this clears up that issue. Thanks for all your time and please don't send the spider or any pieces back to me--they're all yours now...
I'll move the images to mildei.

Cheiracanthium
would be my guess as well.

Thanks, Lynette.
Thanks for your help.

you're welcome
Have you heard back from the person who was trying to ID it for you?

Not yet.
He said it would be a couple of weeks before he could get to it.
