Moth - Paonias excaecatus

Moth - Paonias excaecatus
Elbridge, Onondaga County, New York, USA
June 22, 2009
Size: 2.5" wide x 1.5" long
I found this moth on my hydrangea today and it hasn't moved from the spot in over 6 hours. It is a very unusual looking moth. I wonder if it is a "Walnut Sphynx Moth". Does anyone know?

Walnut Sphinx Moth
Do you know if it is harmful to plants? Can I just leave it there?

not harmful in any way
Most moths do not have any working mouthparts, so it's not going to eat your plants... although females may lay eggs which become hungry caterpillars. They can't bite you or sting you either.

I think it's blinded sphinx
