Found this rusty-red grasshopper while doing the Boerne Texas Butterfly Count at the Cibolo Nature Center.

Schistocerca sp, maybe
The anatomy doesn't look quite like Schistocerca to me, but I'm no expert. Did you get a picture of the head that shows the eyes in more detail? - Schistocerca have distinctive striped eyes. The nymphs of the genus are large, so 1.5" would fit there. Color is *not* a reliable way to ID nymphs, but it's sometimes at least a clue. With that caveat, all the "orange all over" hopper nymphs I've seen photographs of have been Schistocerca. Here are two:
