Six Spotted Tiger Beetle? - Massachusetts - Cicindela sexguttata

Six Spotted Tiger Beetle? - Massachusetts - Cicindela sexguttata
Worcester County, Massachusetts, USA
June 20, 2009
Size: 1.5" long
I don't mean to be silly, but I went digging in the tiger beetle area for an eight spotted tiger beetle since this has more than six spots. Do some six spotted tiger beetles have eight spots on them? This was in a back yard in central Massachusetts.

C. sexguttata
This is definitely Cicindela sexguttata. There is great variability in the number of spots (some have no spots). -dm

Thanks!
Thank you both so much! I think they should create a new grouping for the 8 spotted tiger beetle. Or maybe change the name of this to "spotted tiger beetle with zero to 8 spots". Although how you could call something a spotted tiger beetle when it has no spots is beyond me :)

apparently so for six-spotted tiger beetle
Here's a couples pictures of the six-spotted tiger beetle, Cicindela sexguttata, that has 8 spots as well. I'm not an expert though. Hopefully one will confirm this for you.
