OC Bee Fly Archives - Anthrax varicolor
Nix Nature Center, Laguna Beach, Orange County, California, USA
June 21, 2009
I saw several different insects flying over what I call Table-Top Town, a small nesting site for Diadasia bees. Among them were a buprestid, cuckoo wasp, this bee fly, and another (Exoprosopa doris). There were also some tiny bee-like insects landing on the ground; I have yet to get a handle on these but am guessing male Diadasia.

I'll say Anthrax varicolor.

Thanks, Andy
It's a new one for me. Hopefully, I'll get a better shot later.
