Diceroprocta sp. (nr. D. apache) - Teneral MALE
The Diceroprocta cicadas of the southwest pose a dilemma when it comes to id.

I recommend comparing this image with those under Diceroprocta apache.

The pronotal collar appears clearly divided (dark anteriorly and light posteriorly), a trait characteristic of some populations of the aforementioned taxon, particularly those in s. Arizona (incl. Pima, Santa Cruz and Cochise Co's.).

-----------------------

Populations of apache further north in AZ very closely resemble D. semicincta in both color and pattern, however, the opercula of the males differ and these cicadas have the reddish eyes seen in most D. apache (it can be even more difficult to id when comparing preserved material). There are also very light colored individuals in n. AZ, UT, and se. CA which are characterized by a reddish-brown and these too possess a light bone-colored pronotal collar which does not appear divided.
