I found this female orb weaver on a web built on the trunk of a conifer.

We were going to suggest Zygiella
but we don't know the genus well. See . It will be interesting to see what Lynette says as she sees this genus more often.

 
You may be right.
It's been years since I looked at a Zygiella sp. up close. More pictures (of the dorsal abdomen) and a description of the web would be helpful.

 
No more pics -
unfortunately, and I didn't take notes on the web. This was sort of a late night drive-by photo series... I'm not at all sure of the genus - just the family.

I think you're right. This is similar to the Larinioides I've been watching in my back yard for the past several nights.
