Red-Headed Cricket - Phyllopalpus pulchellus - male

Red-Headed Cricket - Phyllopalpus pulchellus - Male
Mobile (Dog River), Mobile County, Alabama, USA
June 23, 2009
Phyllopalpus pulchellus? Found on nandina leaf. Are the cerci indicative of male?

Females have cerci, too.
The key to the gender of this critter is the lack of an ovipositor, such as that sported by the cricket in this image http://bugguide.net/node/view/7575.

Cerci Issue
Thanks for clearing up the cerci issue, James

Yes.
Your ID is correct. This is a nymph (juvenile) male specimen.
