wasp vs spider - Episyron

wasp vs spider - Episyron
Maine, USA
August 4, 2005
Size: wasp approx 1/2 inch
I caught this tiny wasp dragging this spider up a wall. Both together were under an inch long.

Episyron snowi?
This reminds me much of Episyron snowi, with the reduced temples and silvery pubescence on the lower face and clypeus (I assume...the clypeus isn't visible). It just doesn't seem right for E. biguttatus or E. quinquenotatus, E. conterminus has red legs, and E. oregon is only found in the west.

Episyron?
If the white spot on the tip of the abodmen is not an artifact of lighting, then this is a female Episyron sp., family Pompilidae. The prey is correct for that genus as well (an orb weaver). Neat shot!

it is a white spot...
I went back and checked the original and it is a white spot.
Thanks again

Thanks Eric
I thought this was a cool shot too! Thanks for the information and taking the time to comment. I am not sure about the white spot...I will look at the original and see if I can tell.
