Carrion Beetle - Nicrophorus tomentosus

Carrion Beetle - Nicrophorus tomentosus
Bolton, Worcester County, Massachusetts, USA
August 22, 2005
Size: 12mm
Is this a Tomentose beetle?

Nicrophorus tomentosus
I agree that this is Nicrophorus tomentosus. I visited the Canadian National Collection of Insects a few days ago, and saw a drawer full of these. Their key characteristic, clearly visible in your photo, is the yellow 'fur' on their thorax.

Thanks for the ID David.

Silphid
This is a carrion beetle in the family silphidae, genus nicrophorus. Imnot sure of the species because i know a lot of the Nicrophorus species can be very similar, but N.tomentosa is a good bet.
