Eristalis larva

Eristalis larva
West Salem, Polk County, Oregon, USA
June 24, 2009
Size: 0.5"
Size is the main body, not including the long whip-like appendage. Found (with many others) in a small well shaded puddle in my backyard and shares the puddle with a good 100+ mosquito larvae

This is a Syrphid larvae a so called rat-tail maggot. Very likely genus Eristalis

Rat-tailed maggot
Could rat-tailed maggot images be placed somewhere more specifically than this section, which is for unidentified syrphid larvae and pupae? Would Eristalini be safe? Or Eristalinae?
