Brown widow
I didn't realize these had spread to CA, but this seems to be a brown widow

The black widows all have nice, smooth egg sacs. Brown widow egg sacs are distinctively tufted like this.

 
Range in Southern CA...
...since at least 2006, judging from the fantastic photos that Dr. Bryant and Dr. Vincent have posted at Arthropods of OC. Enjoy!
