I think this is a butterfly, but which one? It stayed very close to the ground inside a forest edge.

If by "small window of activity" you
are referring to months of occurrence shown on the Data Tab please keep in mind that this is user submitted data and is very incomplete. This is a common species that inhabits open woodlands, woodland edges, and old fields. The larvae feed on grasses.
