It is certainly a widow. I'm not sure which one, maybe brown. See matching image here:

 
A much closer match!
I think you must be correct, Lynette. All the patterns I looked at for L. hesperus were just slightly wrong, but the post you referenced looks just right. However, I see that those images have not yet been confirmed as L. geometricus. I'm no expert, but given the similarity between the abdominal pattern on this image (and the ones you referenced) to Jeff Hollenbeck's image below, I think perhaps they could be safely moved to the species page. What are your thoughts?

Latrodectus hesperus?
Not 100% sure, but immediately reminded me of a Black Widow I photographed near the pool at my house. I had no idea what it was before doing some looking around online...
