Carpenter Ant Queen? - Camponotus pennsylvanicus

Carpenter Ant Queen? - Camponotus pennsylvanicus
Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, USA
June 29, 2009
Size: 1/2"
I found this ant in a rotten part of my cedar backyard gate. No other ants in residence. I've never seen an ant this big - nearly half an inch long. Is this a queen carpenter ant about to set up a new colony?
