Sycamore Tussock Moth - Halysidota harrisii

Sycamore Tussock Moth - Halysidota harrisii
Harvard, Worcester County, Massachusetts, USA
August 26, 2005
I found this caterpillar on an American Sycamore tree, and put it on a random leaf to photograph.

Love These!
I see these every where where I live. The ones that I see are yellow but I also see some that are light brown and white ones too. Does any one know why they're so variable at the larvae stage?
