Agave Longhorned Beetle - Tragidion

Agave Longhorned Beetle - Tragidion
Mazatzal Mountains, Maricopa County, Arizona, USA
May 13, 2009
Size: ~ 3 cm
I found this beetle high in a blue palo verde that I was trimming. I was standing on the highest recommended rung of the ladder while taking picture. At first I thought it was associated with the palo verde since I had dying branches nearby. But I also had several agave stems in my yard taken from the foothills of the Mazatzal Mts. The smooth elytra and lack of lateral armature on the pronotum suggest to me T. agave, but will leave that to the specialists.
