Hippodamia parenthis? - Hippodamia parenthesis
Cuyamaca Woods, Julian, San Diego County, California, USA
June 27, 2009
I am aware that there is more than one sp. out west that looks similar

H. parenthis
I think we're safe calling this one H. parenthis. There's no black spot reaching the apical suture (H. apicalis / H. expurgata). And the other choice, H. l. lunatomaculata (southern subspecies), is much less maculate on the elytra (yours is very heavily maculate).

Nice, thanks!
