Small Polyphylla - Dinacoma sanfelipe
5.3 mi. N. of Hwy. 78 in San Felipe Creek, San Diego County, California, USA
June 27, 2009
Black light. Size will follow later

Based on comments by Conrad Gillett
(pers. comm. HW) relating to both the present photo, as well as one by Robyn Waayers.
"Whilst it is impossible to be sure of the identity from comparison to photographs, I believe that they do represent male Dinacoma sanfelipe." based on
"1) they appear to lack a distinct third (basal) outer tooth on the anterior tibiae
2) they have acuminate and outwardly directed anterior clypeal angles
3) they have rather distinct elytral striping
4) they are from the type locality of D. sanfelipe"
Moved from Dinacoma marginata.

Moved
Moved from Dinacoma.

Dinacoma sp.
could be marginata, but the genus is being revised. (?) Cunningham det., also Bill Warner

has to be marginata
the only other sp (D. caseyi) is only known from around Palm Springs CA and is evidently threatened/in decline
