Explanation of Names
Specific epithet from Latin meaning "discal (cell) dot," for the "black point on the disk" of the forewings. (1)
Common name from the dark forewing makings that sometimes resemble the logo of the comic book hero Batman.

Wingspan 11-15 mm. (2)

Males do not have a costal fold
Range
Records from the eastern half of the United States and Canada, south into Mexico and the Caribbean. (2), (3)
Type locality: Pennsylvania.
