Ultronia Underwing? - Catocala ultronia

Ultronia Underwing? - Catocala ultronia
Alexandria, Fairfax County, Virginia, USA
June 23, 2009
I saw that bright bit of color and reached to see if it would tolerate me pulling its wing open, but it flew off.

My screen must be tasty.

Attracted to the patio light at night.

Yes
Ultronia

ID Based on forewing pattern
Not color of hindwing which may not be true. I think ultronia hw color is closer to red than to pink or orange, but in any event, this looks like ultronia to me.

It could have been
the lighting that makes it look orange.

Thank you!

no
ultronia underwings are pink. this is orange
