Black Widow?? - Latrodectus variolus - female

Black Widow?? - Latrodectus variolus - Female
Midhurst, Simcoe, Ontario, Canada
July 1, 2009
Size: size of a loonie
Found specimen in a wood pile. Googled it and found images that appear to identify it as a female Black Widow?? We are an hour north of Toronto; do these spiders live this far north, or was it transported via another method? Any other info would be helpful. Planning on letting it go......after a long car ride!

Looks like a
Northern Black Widow (Latrodectus variolus). This species does range into southeastern Canada. More info here.
