Maybe a mantis?
Google led me to a photo of an egg case that looked really similar to this one. http://themarvelousinnature.wordpress.com/2008/04/04/homes-for-the-winter/ Although the one in the link is Canadian.

Probably European mantis. In the future, I suggest editing the text below your photo rather than commenting on your own image. I think this is why no one has commented until now--from a quick glance, it looks like someone else has already offered you an ID.

I am sure you are right, Charley! Thank you. I appreciate your ID on my European mantis ootheca. Here's hoping we'll get lots of little baby mantises hopping around soon! Thanks again!

 
Overwinter
Hard to say from the pic it could also be ootheca of Stagmomantis sp.. European mantis ootheca needs overwinter (Diapause) for hatching so I would leave the ootheca outdoor through winter and It should hatch by next Spring.
