Clarkia Bee ? - Coelioxys

Clarkia Bee ? - Coelioxys
Manteca , California , U.S.A., San joaquin County, California, USA
July 3, 2009
Size: about 1 cm
I found this interesting Bee in the morning at about 7:30 and the temperature was already around 70 degrees . I found it hanging onto a long grass stem and it looked like it may have been sleeping . When I touched it the body wiggled but it stayed attached to the grass stem with it's little legs folded up behind it . I bent the stem closer so I could take photos of it as the early morning sun was so bright . It may have been head up and body down on the stem instead of upside down . I have seen this little Bee while flying around the flowers but not resting until now . I thought maybe it was a hatchling and needed to dry it's wings to fly , but I did not see any egg case . Thanks for any comments to further my bug knowledge , sincerely Beth
