Wasp? - Polistes annularis

Wasp? - Polistes annularis
Garland, Dallas County, Texas, USA
July 3, 2009

I think it is the most beautiful Polistes too
I have always loved this wasp since I was a kid and I used to hunt them all the time, but I have not seen one of these in Orlando in a very long time. I think their natural ecosystem is disappearing. I am not sure exactly what ecosystem they really like other then swampy areas. I hope that if you see this wasp again, please video tape it and put it on youtube and let me know.

Yes
This is P. annularis. orange-tipped antennae and yellow line after T1 are diagnostic of the species

Nice shot! These have to be some of the most beautiful of the Polistes in my opinion
