Corpse of Larva and Parasitoid - Orgyia leucostigma

Corpse of Larva and Parasitoid - Orgyia leucostigma
Bowie, Prince George's County, Maryland, USA
August 26, 2005
Beside the corpse of the caterpillar is the cocoon of an Ichneumon wasp measuring 5.5 x 3.0mm. I thank Tony Thomas for identifying the parasitoid (Ichneumonidae, probably Campopleginae). A similar photo appears in the introduction to Dave Wagner's guide to eastern caterpillars.
