Carolina Satyrs - Hermeuptychia sosybius - male - female

Carolina Satyrs - Hermeuptychia sosybius - Male Female
Parkwood, Durham County, North Carolina, USA
August 26, 2005
An August couple in North Carolina for the guide. This species flies all summer. I had not noticed this previously, but one of them (lower right, male?) has rather orangish antennae.

These butterflies were perched very calmly for several minutes. It was late afternoon on rather a dull day, and I was able to get the light fairly well balanced-with a master and slave-flash set-up, which I have only used a few times. With that set-up, I was able to shoot at f16 and get some depth-of-field out of my 100 mm macro lens.
