cluster of small red insects

Size: <5mm
These appear to have emerged from long cylindrical egg cases (?) that run along the stem of the plant. They've been huddled in a cluster on this leaf for several days now. At night they seem to get closer together and during the day they seem to spread out a bit.

We've had much luck identifying things on bugguide.net but on this one we're stumped!

I just found this exact thing
I just found this exact thing last night! A cluster of these insect on the top of one single leaf. And some on the underneath side with the same thing you mentioned. I'll try and post a pic. I'm new to the site so we'll see...

Watch out
I have the same thing on my hibiscus and this morning my fearless 3 yr old daughter thought the "hundreds" as put it on there was cool so she was playing with them and they stung her in 2 spots, so far nothing a little ice hasn't helped. Manvel TX

Maybe Assasin Nymphs (not sure)
The shape and body posture looks like assasin nymphs to me. I found two images that may help you, especially the "hatching" one as it shows an egg case. Do these look familiar? maybe Eric will check in, I'm sure he'd know.
