bumblebee? - Xylocopa virginica

bumblebee? - Xylocopa virginica
Merrimack, New Hampshire, USA
July 4, 2009
Size: ~1 1/4 in.
This huge bumblebee(?) was found bumbling along around the milkweed. I found a few and decided to capture one. They are at least twice the size of the average bumblebee, and they all have a black spot in the middle of their thorax. Their abdomen are not fuzzy.
