Unknown beetle - Reduvius personatus

Unknown beetle - Reduvius personatus
McHenry County, Illinois, USA
September 22, 2004
Have tried to identify this insect for five years. Here's hoping someone can help. Found in a pile of old rags.

Got it!
I'm considerably less strong in my nymphal assassin bug identifications but I think I've got this one figured out.

I suspect this is an undusty nymph of Reduvius personatus. It's also one of the later instars. There are three main clues that lead me to this: (a) the coloration of the legs ie black femora and brownish tibiae, (b) the location of the specimen which is presumably from a human habitation and (c) the similarity of the abdomen of this nymph to the nymphal abdomen of the Triatoma. In the reduviid phylogeny, the Triatominae and Reduviinae are rather closely related. Additionally this image of a dust-covered nymph shows similar abdominal pattern in the uncovered edge:

Thank you so much for your help. Your input looks on the mark. I would like to move this from the request section...do you know which section this would be placed?

Thanks again! Mystery solved.
