Car robber - Andrenosoma

Car robber - Andrenosoma
World Birding Center at Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park, Hidalgo County, Texas, USA
May 2, 2008
I tend to leave the car windows cracked open on warm days down here, to keep the temperature inside my car slightly below molten-rock levels. I got back to my car late one night and found this critter on the dashboard. I took a few photos before letting it go. Unfortunately, the darkness outside led to the front and dorsal views being overexposed by the flash going off. Another Andrenosoma igneum, maybe?

Fly steals car...
Film at eleven. Sorry, just had to:-)

Now there's a thought...
If a robberfly came along that was big enough to reach the steering wheel and pedals at the same time, I think I'd throw him the keys, let him take the car, and hide until he was gone!

Moved
Moved from Laphriinae.

Andrenosoma
Species. Beautiful thing. It looks alot like igneum but I have no images of the other species in TX.
