Nemomydas pantherinus? - Nemomydas pantherinus - female

Nemomydas pantherinus? - Nemomydas pantherinus - Female
Pescadero, San Mateo County, California, USA
June 27, 2009
Some odd & ends here supporting the ID. (Not the best quality image...editors, feel free to frass as appropriate).

At the upper right you can see the terminal 9th abdominal segment, relatively short and narrow compared to the preceding 8th segment, and with a few bristles barely discernible. This is in accord with the description of N. pantherinus in Hardy's article (cf. comments w/ first image in series here).

Also, in the inset on lower right (and at lower left of the total image) you can (barely) make out short post-apical bristles on the hind tibia, just above the tarsi. If instead of bristles, there were post-apical spurs (which I believe would be chunkier than what I'm taking to be "bristles" here), then our specimen would key to a genus in Mydidae other than Nemomydas --- at least in the 1934 treatment by Curran(1) (which is freely downloadable online here, but warning - it's a HUGE file). If I recall correctly, the 1981 McAlpine(2) Mydidae key also refers to the meta-tibial apical spine character.

[See first image in this series for more complete info.]
