Skipper Fly Interactions - Prochyliza xanthostoma

Skipper Fly Interactions - Prochyliza xanthostoma
Horner Park, Richmond Hill (N43º52'20"W079º24'45"), York Region, Ontario, Canada
May 21, 2009
Immediately upon making contact, the two flies engaged in what appeared to be a boxing match. Within a one to two seconds, the match would be over, with one of the flies breaking off and disappearing (presumably flying away), and the "victor" proceeding to resume its territorial patrol. I observed this interaction to repeat itself a dozen times over a half-hour period.

Domestic abuse?
Maybe she flew off to file a restraining order! Great series of images, Stephen, keep up the great work.

Thanks Eric
The female fly did win several times :-)
