Was this a molt? - Papilio zelicaon
Alameda County, California, USA
July 10, 2009
On carrot leaf, afternoon, anise swallowtail larva a few days old. Is the thing above the larva its previous (first-instar) skin? The upper object was gone a few minutes later. I'd guess it to be a skin, now eaten, except that it has no white band in the middle.
