Red-footed Cannibalfly - Promachus rufipes - male - female

Red-footed Cannibalfly - Promachus rufipes - Male Female
Orange County, North Carolina, USA
September 26, 2003
Mating--robber flies often fly around clumsily while coupled. OK, it is pretty obvious from looking at this photo now. Male is on the left, with a bulb-shaped tip of the abdomen, and he is considerably smaller than the female on the right. The female has a more tapered abdomen, an ovipositor.
