Dermacentor variabilis/American Dog Tick - Dermacentor variabilis

Dermacentor variabilis/American Dog Tick - Dermacentor variabilis
Blythewood, Fairfield County, South Carolina, USA
June 25, 2009
Thankfully did not appear to have bitten me. Am concerned about possibility of Lyme disease.

Moved from ID Request.

American Dog Tick
Dermacentor variabilis. These ticks do not carry Lyme disease, but they do carry Rocky Mountain spotted fever.
Males rarely bite, but they do bite (ask me how I know).
