Size: 12 mm
Fourth instar, with the larva at its maximum size. The central abdominal tubercules are three-branched now - in this photo it's most visible on the 7th segment.
Prey: pupa of diamondback moth (Plutella xylostella). The beetle larva used its mandibles to open the cocoon, then pulled the soft pupa forward with its front legs.
Plant: Lady's thumb/smartweed (Polygonum sp.). Pupa collected from broccoli (Brassica oleracea "Italica").
