Thanks to John and Jane Balaban, Liz Day, Phil Pellitteri and Mike Quinn for leading me in the right direction. I'm not sure that it's this sp, but it looks very similar to the picture in Wagner's caterpillar book on page 299.

Looks like a young Notodontid.
No eastern books with us right now out on the west coast. Maybe Hannah will know?
