Borer? - Stenocorus schaumii

Size: 1" - 1 1/2"
I found this beetle/bug climbing on a tree trunk. It appeared to be laying eggs. It was a large beetle, with orange and black legs. The body is almost shaped like a shield. The head was all black and shiny. The white that shows on the photo is a reflection of the flash.
